U.K. turns CCTV, terrorism laws on pooping dogs

U.K. turns CCTV, terrorism laws on pooping dogs

It's only a matter of time before this starts to happen everywhere. Of course everyone should pick up after their own dog, that goes without saying, but this is taking things way too far.

L.A. pet law requires pets sterilized at 4 months - CNN.com

L.A. pet law requires pets sterilized at 4 months - CNN.com
This is a bad idea.

Yes, of course, spaying/neutering your pet is the right thing to do, no argument there.

But the decision on **when** to do it is something that has to be decided by you and your vet. The government has no business picking a random number of days/weeks/months and making that the law. This type of law can do far more harm than good!

German police dogs now wear shoes - CNN.com

German police dogs now wear shoes - CNN.com
What a great idea! The booties protect the dog's feet from things like broken glass.

Plus, isn't nice to see police dogs treated well?

Even your dog has a blog
Cute article about people who blog for their dogs (and cats too!). But they forgot to mention our favorite place to pet blog:

ABC News: Owners Ditch Pets After Home Foreclosures

ABC News: Owners Ditch Pets After Home Foreclosures
This quote from the article sums up the problem:
"No one keeps track of the numbers of abandoned pets, but anecdotal evidence suggests that forsaken animals are becoming a problem wherever foreclosures are climbing."

Like so many, this is a problem of multiple layers: people forced into foreclosure for any number of reasons, the all-too-prevalent "no pets allowed" housing issues, and so on. But leaving pets behind to fend for themselves is no answer.

If you, or someone you know are facing this problem, I urge you to read this: Foreclosure Victims Urged to Remember Pets When Relocating.

Acid Attacks on Dogs in NJ

You may have heard about the beagle puppy that some creep attacked with acid.* Evil, sick, twisted, depraved, wicked, heinous, loathsome...I just can't find a single word to describe the person who could do such a thing.

I'm surprised and bothered that the news isn't pointing out that this isn't a one-time event. A while back another dog was found, in the same area, after another acid attack. Call me an alarmist, but this seems like more like a pattern than just a horrible coincidence. And where is the reporting on where the dogs come from? Are these family pets that have been stolen? Or someone abusing their own pets?

The good news is in both cases a local group (START II of Bergen County) has stepped in to help get these poor pups the medical treatment they need. If you want to make a donation, you can call them at: 201-843-8968 or visit "http://www.volunteermatch.org/orgs/org49333.html.

Keep a close eye on your pets, and give them an extra hug tonight.

*Fair warning - the stories and photos are hard to read/disturbing to view.
