Have you ever put 5 treats in your pocket in front of your dog, and then only given him/her 4 of them? They know you're holding out, right? I know mine does! And she doesn't give me peace until I give up that last one.

Well, according to CNN, there's a reason for that; a reason we dog people have always known, but one that the rest of the world wouldn't believe.

[Update: In the commercial they show the Snuggie for Dogs on what looks to me like a Retriever, but on the site the 'large' size is listed as 16-20 inches long and for weights between 17-27lbs. Those measurements would fit my cockapoo, but I can't see it working for anything larger. ]

Nutro Products Announces Voluntary Recall of Limited Range of Dry Cat Food Products

There is a voluntary recall of select varieties of NUTRO(R) NATURAL CHOICE(R) COMPLETE CARE(R) Dry Cat Foods and NUTRO(R) MAX(R) Cat Dry Foods with "Best If Used By Dates" between May 12, 2010 and August 22, 2010. The cat food is being voluntarily recalled in the United States and ten additional countries. This recall is due to incorrect levels of zinc and potassium in our finished product resulting from a production error by a US-based premix supplier.

Two mineral premixes were affected. One premix contained excessive levels of zinc and under-supplemented potassium. The second premix under-supplemented potassium. Both zinc and potassium are essential nutrients for cats and are added as nutritional supplements to NUTRO(R) dry cat food.

Consumers who have purchased product affected by this voluntary recall should return it to their retailer for a full refund or exchange for another NUTRO(R) dry cat food product. Cat owners who have questions about the recall should call 1-800-833-5330 between the hours 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM CST, or visit www.nutroproducts.com.

My pupster *loves* splashing around in her kiddie, err, puppy pool, but only when the hose is running. I'll have to dig up a video to share - it's a hoot!

But in the meantime, enjoy this sweet bulldog who is clearly torn between enjoying is wonderful new pool and showering thank yous on his person for giving it to him.

It never ceases to amaze me how dogs are able to move past the awful treatment they sometimes receive from the hands of humans. This pup experienced pain beyond imagining, survived, and with time and love is now bring joy to people every chance he gets.

Be extra careful of anything not prescribed by your vet (a.k.a. over the counter, internet "solutions," etc.
