This is a good article about pets with allergies. There's just one thing I'd like to add...you should check with your Vet before giving your pet any medication, including Benadryl.
My pup has seasonal allergies that get bad in the Spring and Fall, just like mine. So far, the hydroxyzine our Vet prescribed has been a huge help! We've had to adjust the dosage a couple of times over the years, but other than that, no worries. I give the pup one or two pills a day, depending on how severe her symptoms are, and generally after a month or so we wean her off them and wait for the next trouble season to arrive.
