Security Holes in RealPlayer, QuickTime
According to the Internet News report, the RealPlayer problem can be exploited by corrupting a PNG (Portable Network Graphics) file and the QuickTime problem involves an overrun created by URL containing 400 characters.

The new version of QuickTime (6.1) addresses this problem. The RealOne website explains how to update your RealPlayer to plug the hole.

Understanding Programmers
Other than a misguided statement about how graphic designers are treated and the tools they need (transparent hardware isn't required, honest - good tools are), this article takes a stab at explaining why programmers/developers aren't as strange as pop culture likes to believe. And is explains why noisy environments with lots of interruptions are not the best place to put coders.

Discussion of User Interface Testing
The good news is UI design issues are getting more attention; the bad news is UI design issues are getting more attention. Yes, I know, but it's true. Now that people are remembering to include UI issues in discussions about a new project, they are also looking to include cold, hard, clear cut calculations in their reports to upper management about the cost/benefit ratios. Problem is, UIs are a gray zone, not prone to numerical quantification. Not that that little fact stops anyone from trying. The reality is a mix of judgement and science, something that makes business uncomfortable. As a UI designer, it's important to know this, face it head on, and try to balance the need to make the UI work for the user while helping the business find ways to understand its value.

Microsoft Releases Windows MX Update to Address Wireless Issues
If you use a 802.11 wireless net and are on WinXp, it's time to update your system. According to the report, the update adds support for Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA), which is intended to replace the current standard, Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP).
